West Ham United have started serious talks about a loan deal for Raheem Sterling. They want to strengthen an attack that has struggled to score goals lately. Insiders at the London Stadium, specifically the well-connected ExWHUEmployee, say the Hammers see the Chelsea winger as a key signing. He could be the player they need to stay up during the second half of this tough season.
The East London club are currently stuck in the Premier League relegation zone. So, the owners feel they have to bring in proven winners with plenty of top-flight experience. Nuno Espírito Santo is under a lot of pressure as results keep going against him. This situation is forcing the recruitment team to look for players who can perform right away rather than long-term prospects.
Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling has been left out in the cold at Stamford Bridge. His massive £325,000 weekly wage makes it very hard for him to leave on a permanent deal. The 31-year-old hasn’t played a single minute of competitive football since the new coaching staff arrived at Chelsea. He has basically become a very expensive spectator.
Although the English winger spent last season on loan at Arsenal, he couldn’t break into their starting eleven. He ended up going back to Chelsea with very little momentum. After a move to Fulham fell through in the summer, this potential switch to West Ham look like a final lifeline.

West Ham are taking a big risk. This move could either kickstart their season or just make their wage bill even harder to manage. Some critics think Sterling is past his best. Even so, his knack for finding space and pulling defenders out of position gives Nuno Espírito Santo an attacking option he doesn’t currently have.
By playing Sterling on the left wing, the manager can move Jarrod Bowen into a more central role. This change makes the team much harder to defend against. On top of that, Sterling’s habit of appearing out of nowhere in the box gives the team a goal threat that works well alongside a physical striker.
However, the club have to think about how this affects the dressing room. They are bringing in a high-earner who has recently struggled with form and confidence. If the Chelsea man doesn’t start well, the Hammers might regret spending so much of their January budget on him. Some fans might think a tough defensive midfielder is a better use of the money.
The deal only works if Nuno can get Sterling back to his best. He needs him to work hard defensively while still being the main creative outlet. If the winger finds his old pace again, he could be the spark West Ham need to climb out of the bottom three.
