West Ham United have made an offer to sign AS Roma left-back Anass Salah-Eddine on a season-long loan, according to The Athletic.
Manager Nuno Espirito Santo wants a replacement for El Hadji Malick Diouf after he joined Brentford.
Salah-Eddine has emerged as a target for the Hammers and they will hope to get a deal over the line before today’s 11.00 pm transfer deadline.
The 24-year-old Morocco international made four appearances at the last World Cup but is not in Roma’s plans.
Salah-Eddine brings much-needed experience and quality to the table. He has proven himself in the Eredivisie and should be able to hit the ground running in the Championship.
The Hammers only have academy graduates Ollie Scarles and Ezra Mayers as their recognised options at left-back following Diouf’s exit.
Adding Salah-Eddine to their defence could be huge. His passing and dribbling are among his main attributes.
The Dutchman is very comfortable on the ball and attacks well, often playing further up on the pitch.
The opportunity to play for a team eyeing an immediate return to the Premier League could appeal to Salah-Eddine.
West Ham have started life in the Championship with two draws and one defeat in their opening three league games.
They take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at home tonight and need a victory to kick-start their season.
