After losing Nacho Ferri to Feyenoord, Westerlo are in the market for a new striker. According to HNB, the side are one of a number of clubs eyeing up a move for Coventry City striker Norman Bassette. Standard Liege were another Belgian Pro League side interested in signing the Coventry City forward, who is likely to be available for a loan move after the side won promotion to the Premier League. Westerlo are interested in a loan deal with Coventry City for Bassette that would include a purchase option. Reports suggest that the sides are getting closer on a deal.

Bassette is no stranger to the Belgian league, having spent time at KV Mechelen three seasons ago. In 2024 he also won a cap for the Belgian national team. However, he has struggled to make much of an impact at Coventry City. After joining in 2024 from French side Caen, he scored just two goals in 29 games. During the 2025/2026 season Coventry City were happy to loan Bassette out, first back to France with Reims. However, after two goals in 13 games he returned to England before being loaned out again, this time to German side Kaiserslautern. Again, he managed two goals, this time in 16 games. Clearly, the numbers are not enough to convince Coventry City that Bassette is ready for the Premier League. He is still only 21, so a move to Westerlo could see him kick on in terms of goals.
