Weverton is expected to make his Grêmio debut within a week of arriving in Porto Alegre. According to Globo.com, the club aims to complete his registration on Tuesday.
He has not played since 15 October last year, when Palmeiras beat Bragantino. He recovered from a fissure in his right hand and resumed training at the end of 2025, though he was not yet available.
The goalkeeper trained through the holidays, has reported and is working normally at Grêmio. If confirmed, his debut would come 98 days after his last Palmeiras appearance.
The intention is to field him against Guarany on Wednesday at 21:30 at Estrela D'Alva in Bagé, about 400 km from Porto Alegre. That would give him at least one outing before Sunday’s Gre-Nal at Beira-Rio.
Head coach Luís Castro has spoken about using him soon and joked about the need for CBF clearance. Tuesday is the deadline for entry on the CBF BID to make him eligible.
Weverton’s leadership is valued in the dressing room. The 38-year-old is Palmeiras’ most decorated player with 12 titles, plus Olympic gold in 2016 and Brazil call-ups. The reserve squad is set to include João Pedro, Caio Paulista, Cuéllar and Willian.
