FC Barcelona played out a 4-2 win against Celta Vigo at Balaidos. The Catalan club produced a Jekyll-and-Hyde two halves against their high-flying Galician opponents.

The first 45 minutes were very end-to-end, with Barcelona’s back line falling apart like a pack of cards. It ended with Hansi Flick’s team going into the break with a 3-2 lead, courtesy of a brace from Lewandowski and a goal from Lamine.

The second half, however, was Barcelona close to their very best. An improved press combined with excellent ball retention meant Celta did not get a sniff and could not create any meaningful chances.

After the match, footage from Movistar, relayed by Mundo Deportivo, captured a revealing leadership moment from Lamine Yamal. Following Celta’s first goal, the youngster appeared visibly frustrated and questioned his teammates:

“What are we doing in midfield?”

Later, after Celta equalised at 2–2, DAZN cameras showed Lamine once again urging his teammates to stay composed and organised:

“Hey! Let’s get back!”

It was a striking moment of maturity from the 18-year-old La Masia graduate, who continues to show both talent and leadership beyond his years.

Eventually, the team did step up their quality in the second half, which is very promising from Flick’s perspective, but not for the first time this season, Barcelona conceded immediately after scoring.

Sometimes it is important to keep hold of the ball and not get sucked into a basketball-style game, as Barcelona showed in the second half last night. Let us hope this serves as inspiration for how the team needs to play when they return after the international break.
