August Priske has explained why he was keen to join Birmingham City following his transfer from Djurgaden.
August Priske has revealed the ambition of Birmingham City was the key factor in the striker choosing to join the Championship side from Djurgaden.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a brilliant individual campaign in Sweden last time out, scoring 18 goals in the league, which made him the joint-top scorer.
Therefore, he was always going to be a man in-demand this January, and, after plenty of speculation, Blues announced the signing of Priske, who has signed a long-term contract at St. Andrew’s.

Given his age and potential, this transfer is seen as a coup for Blues, and Chris Davies will hope the striker can hit the ground running as the team look to close the gap on the play-offs.
As well as that, Priske will be seen as a player who can develop at Birmingham over the years, so there will be high hopes for the target man.
Speaking to the club’s media, the ex-Midtjylland youngster revealed that conversations with Davies and sporting director Craig Gardner convinced him to make the move to the Midlands, as he insists he is joining a club on the rise.
“I said for the last couple of months that, to me, the really interesting part is finding a good project to be a part of and something where I feel like I can develop, and a club who also can take steps. And I feel like I’ve found something really great here with Birmingham – a great city, great fans, and a lot of exciting things for the future, so it was kind of a no-brainer. “I spoke with Craig (Gardner) and Chris (Davies) pretty early on and they said that the (club’s) ambition is not to be where we are right now. They said we have high hopes and high standards for ourselves and that was something that really intrigued me.”
This is a very exciting bit of business by Blues, as Priske is seen as a very talented player who can score goals.
There’s no denying that Kyogo Furuhashi hasn’t lived up to expectations, with Marvin Ducksch also struggling for consistency, so it makes sense that Birmingham went big for another striker this month.

Given Priske’s profile, this looks like a shrewd addition, and fans will be pleased to hear his comments about why he chose to join the club.
Everyone can see the ambition that the US owners have at Blues, and they deserve huge credit for once again backing Davies considerably in the transfer market.
Now, it increases the pressure on the head coach, who will know that he needs quick results to climb the table, as they have underachieved so far this season, even if they will feel a play-off finish is still a possibility, with Priske likely to play a big role in the coming months.
