What Dario Vidosic expects from his Brighton side in cup clash with Portsmouth | OneFootball

Dario Vidosic says that he wants his Brighton and Hove Albion side to play in their characteristic style every game – regardless of the personnel in the team, and regardless of the competition.

And that principle will be tested tonight when they travel to Portsmouth in the Subway Women’s League Cup.

Asked what to expect from the squad, the head coach replied: “The exact same as always…regardless of who we put out.”

He added: “We’ll make some rotations, we’ll give some other girls an opportunity, some young girls will also have an opportunity. We’ve worked for the last two days getting ready, getting everyone’s understanding of how we want to play the game tomorrow, but we very much want to be Brighton so it should be a good game and we’re looking forward to kicking off our league cup campaign.”

Opponents Portsmouth come into the game off the back of a solid 1-0 win over Sheffield United in WSL 2 after two defeats to start the season.

“It’ll be a tough game,” said Vidosic. “Defensively they’re well organised, they’re good in transition, they play a little bit more direct, so we have to be very ready.”

Looking back on the weekend’s 4-1 win over West Ham United, Vidosic spoke about the performances of Caitlin Hayes and loan signing Rosa Kafaji, who both seized their opportunities when given minutes on the pitch, and contributed to the goalscoring tally.

“Caitlin in pre-season came in a little bit injured, so that’s slowed her down,” he said of the Ireland international who made her first appearance of the season. “It’s a team, it’s never just 11 individuals that go out. We prepare everyone, we’ve got a lot of quality.

“The opportunity presented herself – she was ready.

“Rosa [was] similar – she’s been chomping at the bit to play, she’s been nagging me a little bit! We’ve been trying to look after her as much as we can because of her [ankle] surgery in the off-season and then the rehab process.”

Brighton’s next match in the Women’s Super League is on Sunday, 28th September, when they host Everton at Broadfield Stadium.
