It has been a disastrous start to the Championship season for the Canaries under the newly-appointed Liam Manning, as they currently find themselves inside the relegation zone having taken just eight points from their opening 12 encounters.

That is despite the fact Sargent remains one of the second tier's most potent finishers, having hit double figures in each of his past three seasons at the level after initially struggling to aclimatise to life in East Anglia following his switch from Werder Bremen in the summer of 2021.

The atmosphere which surrounds the Norfolk club at present is one of apathy, with supporters growing increasingly frustrated with the hierarchy due to several unpopular decisions, ranging from the future matchday experience at Carrow Road to current matters on the pitch, including Mark Attanasio's call to stick by the aforementioned Manning despite unrest from those in the stands.

The Canaries oversaw a major squad reshuffle in the summer as, for the second pre-season running, a changing of the guard was in order as Manning became Johannes Hoff Thorup's successor after the Dane's own 'rebuilding' job failed to last the course of the 2024/25 campaign.

Amid an influx of new signings, some of whom were heavily welcomed such as Vladan Kovacevic, Harry Darling, Jacob Wright and Mathias Kvistgaarden, Norwich also saw some high-profile names depart in the form of Jonathan Rowe and Borja Sainz, who moved to Marseille and FC Porto respectively, albeit the former is now at Bologna after a well-documented incident at the Stade Velodrome involving ex-PSG midfielder, Adrien Rabiot.

Yet, despite continued transfer discourse, Sargent is the one major name who continues to don the yellow and green, and he believes it will stay that way despite the fact his former City boss, Daniel Farke, hopes to add the 25-year-old to his Leeds United camp.

As previously mentioned, the 29-time USMNT international has been the subject of interest from multiple top-flight sides in England or on the continent.

This summer was the closest we have seen yet in terms of a potential Carrow Road exit for the striker though, with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg walking away from a deal, as Norwich were reported to have demanded in excess of €20m after seeing an initial €19m bid knocked back.

Sargent was also heavily linked with a move to Sunderland and Burnley throughout stages of the summer, as well as being the subject of long-standing interest from Leeds, even prior to the Whites securing the Championship title on the final day of last season.

It is now being claimed that Sargent is back on Farke's transfer radar ahead of January alongside his compatriot Haji Wright, who currently sits second in the Championship's scoring charts after scoring eight times in 11 appearances.

Yet, despite those rumours coming to the fore, the American told local outlet, the Pink'Un, that he has no desire to leave Norwich at present.

"I don't have any plans of leaving at the moment," Sargent said. "I'm very happy here.

"It's been a bit of a rough patch for the club, but I'm fully focused on turning it around and doing my best for this club," he added.

When asked if his chances of making Mauricio Pochettino's squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 tournament in his home country hinge on a potential transfer, the striker stated: "No. I don't think I've thought about it in that way at all.

"I have a contract here, and I stayed for a reason. Again, things aren't going well at the moment for the club, but I fully believe in myself and the club to turn it around.

"Being in the World Cup squad would be a massive achievement again. I'm going to keep working hard and doing everything I can to make the squad."

Norwich City supporters will love Josh Sargent loyalty despite downbeat Carrow Road atmosphere

Loyalty isn't seen that much in the modern game, so Norwich supporters will certainly feel slightly more at ease when hearing Sargent's aforementioned stance on his future in Norfolk.

Despite not hitting the back of the net in two months, anyone who watches the Championship on a regular basis is aware of the clinical finishing which the centre-forward has shown on so many occasions, showcasing how capable he is of swiftly addressing an individual slump in form, which, in turn, would help Norwich's collective fortunes.

Having missed out on Pochettino's last international squad, Sargent will also look to utilise this as extra motivation as the previously highlighted Wright continues to steal the limelight for club and country, with the Los Angeles-born man a key reason behind Coventry City's record-breaking unbeaten start.
