There’s plenty of competition in forward areas for QPR now

Queens Park Rangers striker Rumarn Burrell has earned plaudits from QPR fans for his decisive contribution to their away win at Swansea City.

The 24-year-old netted the only goal in the game, squeezing home a reversed pass from Isaac Hayden in the 18th minute.

Burrell only arrived at Loftus Road in the summer, from Burton Albion, so is still finding his feet at his new club.

But there is little doubt, judging by the response on social media, that he has made a strong impression on his new fanbase.

Rumarn Burrell has made a perfect start to his QPR career

Decisive goals in league games are always going to endear a new player to a set of fans, and that’s exactly what Burrell managed against Swansea.

His goal – a smart front-post run presenting him the chance to place the ball into the far side of Lawrence Vigouroux’s net – bagged Rangers all three points in the clash.

It also showed, if any confirmation were needed, what a danger Burrell can be in and around the six-yard box.

He’s scored three goals in just seven starts for QPR so far in the Championship, and the trio of goals have all come from that zone.

It shows that if the R’s can create the chances, in Burrell they have a man who can finish them off.

QPR fans couldn’t get enough of Rumarn Burrell on social media

Under QPR’s goal tweet on Wednesday night, fans flocked to show their admiration for the scorer of the opener and, in the end, the winner.

“This man HAS to start every week,” Lukegh96 said. “He’s an absolute menace for any back 4!!”

Another fan, NoThankYou93, agreed: “Should be starting every week.”

There is something of a battle in forward areas at QPR after a strong summer of recruitment, but one fan was in no doubt who the top dog is.

“BALLER! Better than Kone! Get up there Burrell son,” Harryc68 tweeted.

There is strong competition for minutes up front at QPR

The Championship club have all of Richard Kone, Rayan Kolli, Burrell and Michael Frey competing for minutes in the frontline, but a favoured pairing appears to be emerging.

Kone and Burrell are undoubtedly the most productive pair, notching four and three league goals respectively.

Having both signed in the summer, it’s a strong vote of confidence in the recruitment team.

When Julien Stephan opts to start both men, as he has done on a number of occasions this season, it usually goes well; QPR are undefeated where the duo have been in from the off.

Burrell has, at times, lost his place to the experienced Frey, but with no goals in his first six appearances this season for the Swiss striker, it is quickly becoming apparent what the strongest selection looks like.
