The Potters have had their current badge since 2001, and it’s one that will have been seen all over the world, with Stoke having played in the Premier League and in Europe over the past 25 years.

However, it appears a change is on the horizon, as the club provided an update to fans about their plans moving forward.

Stoke City confirm plans to change club badge

In a fresh development shared on their official site, the Staffordshire outfit revealed that, after input from ‘thousands’ of supporters, they are ready to share visual concepts of a prospective new badge with supporters.

These will be held via two sessions, with fans able to visit the Bet365 Stadium, or join Microsoft Teams online, on June 17th.

After that, the club will welcome feedback on the designs, and ultimately a vote will be held - and it’s worth noting that there will be an option to keep the current badge.

Stoke City are right to welcome supporter involvement

This is often a divisive topic, and all supporters will have different opinions, so it’s right that the club are welcoming feedback before they make a decision.

As we know, that hasn’t always been the case with clubs in the past, with Leeds United memorably unveiling a new badge after limited supporter consultation. But, the outcry from fans after it was revealed meant they changed their minds.

So, Stoke must be applauded for the way they have gone about things, as they are giving fans every chance to get involved and to share their ideas and input.

Again, it’s a topic that will divide opinion, but they’re also right to ensure the option of sticking with the current badge is on the table too.

It should be said that Stoke’s current badge isn’t exactly old, but we have seen plenty of clubs decide to modernise their badge in the past decade, and it makes sense that this has been discussed by the club.
