Tyryhs Dolan has sent a message to Makhtar Gueye after the forward's Blackburn Rovers exit was confirmed by the Championship club.

Tyrhys Dolan has expressed his well-wishes to former Blackburn Rovers teammate Makhtar Gueye, who officially joined Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua on Tuesday.

Gueye's last ever game for Blackburn arrived when he appeared as a substitute in last month's 2-1 defeat to fellow Championship strugglers Portsmouth.

The Lancashire outfit remain just four points above the second-tier relegation zone, and will be determined to beat Ipswich Town at Portman Road this Saturday.

Defeating the Tractor Boys will be easier said than done for Valerien Ismael's men, though, as Kieran McKenna's side are in a strong position to earn automatic promotion from the Championship.

Blackburn supporters will not be surprised that their club has facilitated Gueye's exit, as the striker failed to score in 17 appearances across all competitions this season.

Furthermore, all 16 of the 28-year-old's Championship outings this term came as a substitute, with Ismael favouring fellow forwards such as Yuki Ohashi and Andri Gudjohnsen.

Meanwhile, the Lancashire club announced via Instagram on Tuesday: "Makhtar Gueye has completed a permanent transfer to Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua for an undisclosed fee.

"Everyone at Rovers thanks him for his efforts and the memorable moments he provided during his time at the club. Good luck, Pape!"

The striker's former teammate, Dolan, commented: "All the best, bro."

Dolan is yet to score for Spanish top-flight club Espanyol since joining from Blackburn last summer, but he has produced three assists in La Liga for Manolo Gonzalez's men.

The Rovers academy graduate previously served the Championship outfit well, notching seven goals and six assists in the second tier last season.

Makhtar Gueye never fulfilled his potential at Blackburn

Before joining Blackburn, Gueye proved his attacking credentials by scoring 11 goals in 32 Belgian top-flight appearances in his solitary season with RWDM Brussels.

However, the former Real Zaragoza man scored just six goals in the Championship last season, although he also produced six assists.

The 28-year-old then fell down the pecking order at Ewood Park following the arrival of the aforementioned Gudjohnsen last summer, meaning he struggled for game time in the second tier.

In total, Gueye managed to score eight goals in 65 Rovers appearances across all competitions, and he will hope to have a greater impact in China.

The forward's first goal for the Lancashire Club came in a 6-1 victory over Stockport County in the EFL Cup back in August 2024, but he failed to emulate that sort of success regularly.

Now that Gueye has left Blackburn, the Ewood Park faithful will want their club to make more new signings this month, following the loan addition of defender Eiran Cashin from Brighton.

Cashin previously excelled in the EFL for Derby County, helping the Rams win promotion back to the Championship, making 44 appearances in the 2023/24 League One season.

The former Republic of Ireland international should feature for Ismael's men in their upcoming clash with Ipswich, having made his debut in the FA Cup third round defeat to Hull City.
