New Swansea City boss Vitor Matos has discussed the style of play he wants to implement at the club following his appointment.
Vitor Matos has admitted the style of Swansea City was part of the appeal of the job, as he vowed to build a team that connects with the supporters.
The Welsh club made the decision to sack Alan Sheehan earlier this month after a mixed start to the campaign that left them in the bottom half.
As well as the inconsistent results, many supporters were unhappy with the style of play under Sheehan, with the club having been known for a possession based approach over the years, which was adopted by the likes of Roberto Martinez, Brendan Rodgers, Michael Laudrup and Russell Martin.
Now, there is hope that Matos can take the club back down that road, with the Portuguese coach arriving with a reputation for playing stylish football from his time with Maritimo.

That convinced the Swans to meet the €1m release clause in his contract, and the 37-year-old will be tasked with guiding the club further up the table as they currently nervously look over their shoulder in 20th position.
However, it seems apparent that Matos will be focused on playing an attractive brand of football, as he told the club’s media that Swansea’s ‘DNA’ made them so attractive, as he stated his aim is to build a team that those on the terraces enjoy watching.
As you would expect, this went down very well with the fans, who believe the ex-Liverpool coach will implement the values they want to see on a regular basis…
Another optimistic Swansea fan even suggested they could win promotion this season.
Meanwhile, this supporter was pleased to see how Matos had done his homework on the club, ensuring their beliefs on how the game should be played would align.
This fan explained that he thinks Matos is exactly what Swansea need right now.
Finally, a comparison has already been made to the previous boss Alan Sheehan in terms of his initial character, and it's clear to see Matos has made a positive impression already.
This is a bold move, as whilst Matos did do very well with Maritimo, the reality is that he is still relatively untested as a head coach.

But, the club have made decisions like this in the past, and they've paid off, and the fact they went and targeted Matos, then paid his release clause, suggests there is a lot of confidence that he can deliver a bright era at the club.
Despite that, there needs to be an understanding that he will need time to do just that, particularly as he will be asking the team to play in a different way, whilst the January window could also be crucial.
Of course, the Swansea fans will know this, and it will be intriguing to see how it plays out, but, from the outside, it does appear like a good fit for both Matos and the club.
