Tyrhys Dolan swapped Lancashire for Catalonia this summer after leaving Blackburn Rovers for free
Blackburn Rovers were helpless to keep Tyrhys Dolan at Ewood Park beyond the summer, with the winger choosing to run down his deal with the club and since switching Lancashire for Catalonia.
Blackburn Rovers’ season has been somewhat of a car crash.
The former Premier League champions find themselves languishing towards the bottom of the EFL Championship table, and face the real possibility of dropping down to the third tier for a second time in less than a decade.
Valerien Ismael has been dismissed from his role in the Ewood Park dugout, with the former Barnsley, West Brom, and Watford boss overseeing a dreadful run of form, which has left the club in a precarious position.
Key players such as Dom Hyam, Lewis Travis, Callum Brittain, and Tyryhs Dolan all left the club over the summer, with Dolan in particular a big blow, having lost the 24-year-old for nothing after the winger chose to run down his contract.
Dolan has since signed for Spanish top-flight side Espanyol, where he has endured a mixed spell of fortunes.

With Dolan choosing to wind down his deal with Blackburn, there was no lack of interest in the diminutive forward.
As per Alan Nixon, the likes of Bristol City, Derby County, and Middlesbrough all registered an interest in signing Dolan upon the expiry of his deal, with clubs in Greece and Turkey also expressing an interest.
However, it would be La Liga outfit Espanyol who would secure the signature of Dolan, signing a three-year deal with the Catalan-based outfit.
In 21 league games so far, having started 16 of those, the Englishman has yet to score for the club, though has registered three assists.
Espanyol has suffered a recent drop-off in form after an excellent start to the campaign, with the club in the midst of a fight for a European place in the upper echelons of the table.
Despite Dolan yet to hit the back of the net for his new club, he has largely made a good impression for the Spanish side, showing a similar level of flair and trickery that he did during his time with Blackburn in the Championship.
Dolan could well find himself playing European football next season, and with Blackburn potentially dropping down to League One, he likely has few regrets over his decision to leave the club.

Looking at Blackburn’s struggles this season, Dolan will likely have few regrets over his decision to leave the club.
Certainly, playing as a regular for a side fighting for Europe in Spain rather than fighting at the bottom of the Championship with Blackburn wasn’t a difficult decision to make.
Dolan was offered fresh terms by Blackburn over the summer, having made over 200 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 26 and assisting 22, but rejected them in favour of a move abroad.
With Blackburn among the lowest-scoring teams in the league, and with the array of injuries they have suffered throughout the squad this season, they could certainly do with someone like Dolan in attack.
However, they will have to make do without their former star, as their status as a Championship club hangs on by a thread.
