The R’s placed Cifuentes on gardening leave in April towards the back end of last season, leaving assistant coaches Kevin Betsy and Xavi Calm to take charge of their final game of the campaign at Sunderland.

Securing a mediocre 15th-placed finish last term, the Hoops will now want stability and to look forward to the future under a committed boss as they aim to bolster their squad during this summer transfer window.

The West London outfit will be hopeful of making a surge up the second tier table if the appointment of Julien Stephan can be effective, with the appointment soon to be confirmed given the emerging news over Cifuentes.

According to West London Sport, the situation involving QPR and Marti Cifuentes is likely to be formally resolved soon.

Axed in April and placed on gardening leave, the Spaniard has been unable to land another Championship job so far, and QPR are not prepared to wait much longer as they need a head coach installed for the beginning of pre-season.

The club is expected to mark the end of the Cifuentes era, and are likely to reflect on his overall achievements at the club in their confirmation, despite such a sour ending to his tenure.

West London Sport also revealed that Cifuentes’ right-hand man, Xavier Calm could leave the club, with an update about his position also set to be clarified shortly.

QPR can look to the future under Julien Stephan

QPR fans will be delighted that Marti Cifuentes’s exit is set to be confirmed, with the club needing to look forward to next season and prepare a squad that can be challenging towards the promotion spots.

The R’s have much to look forward to under Julien Stephan, with the Frenchman achieving great success with Rennes, which involved winning the Brittany club its first major trophy since 1971 by defeating PSG on penalties in the Coupe de France final, as well as qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the very first time ahead of the 2020/21 season.

While it will be a much bigger challenge in the relentless beast that is the Championship, Stephan at least has some pedigree of success in one of the major European leagues, and if he can stamp his own authority on the playing squad before the transfer deadline, then QPR could be dark horses in the race for the top six.
