Football League World has consulted ChatGPT to see where EVERY League One club in 26/27 really belongs

Of all the top four divisions in English football, there's a strong argument to suggest that League One is where the highest volume of variance in the context of club size and historical reputation can be found.

A blend of fallen forces, sleeping giants, steady-yet-static sides and plucky up-and-comers all occupy the diverse division, prompting many to wonder where its occupants really belong overall.

They're all plying their trade in League One, of course - and some may be happier about that than others - but where does every third-tier club truly belong when you measure resources, ambition, stature, standing and club size as a whole?

Football League World has consulted AI-based chatbot ChatGPT to find out the answer to that question - keep reading on to see where AI believes your club actually belongs...

AFC Wimbledon - League One

There's no initial surprises with AI's recognition of AFC Wimbledon as a League One-calibre club, with the Wombles having not played above the third-tier since reforming in 2002.

Wimbledon's resurgent rise over the years has been remarkable, but considering that seven of the last ten years have been spent in League One with no promotion pushes, limited resources and a stadium size that, according to AI, "make sustained Championship football more difficult" at the 9,125-capacity Plough Lane, it's hard to have much of an argument.

Barnsley - League One

Situating Barnsley's overall calibre at League One level may be more contentious, but AI believes that the Tykes' "size and resources" count them out of being any higher.

A classic yo-yo club between the Championship and League One, Barnsley have previously enjoyed many years above the third-tier but they've had to become more comfortable in this division across recent seasons.

Blackpool - Championship

As for Blackpool, however, AI has argued that we're talking about a club with a second-tier profile punching beneath its weight.

Citing substantial Championship experience and a memorable year in the Premier League for good measure alongside "sizeable traditional support", AI believes that Blackpool are bigger than the Championship despite recent instability - having spent just two of the last eleven campaigns at a higher level.

Bradford City - League One

Perhaps one of the boldest calls at play, it's very much contrary to popular belief that AI believes Bradford City are only as big as being a typical League One-calibre club.

In ways aplenty, and in spite of the Bantams' recent history spent in the lower two divisions that makes up AI's mind, this one does feel harsh.

A classic sleeping-giant, Bradford's near-25,000 capacity Valley Parade provides one of the EFL's most deafening atmospheres and the West Yorkshire outfit's large support, significant catchment area and previous Premier League history means that many won't subscribe to AI's school of thought here.

Bromley - League Two

It's far less controversial, however, for Bromley's stature to fall into the League Two category.

After all, the Ravens had never played in the Football League before winning the National League play-offs in 2024, and the rise of the South Londoners is at odds with their overall club size after they stunned the masses to lift the League Two title last time out.

Burton Albion - League One

Now a firm staple of English football's third-tier, it's no surprise that AI has dubbed Burton Albion as "one of the clearest League One clubs".

Having never played in the EFL prior to 2009, the Brewers went on to spend two years in the Championship but are now in their eighth straight season at League One level without ever threatening to change that by means of a promotion push, though they have often flirted with relegation and a minimal fanbase and level of resource renders East Midlands outfit as simply competing to their means.
