Sunderland are close to a shock deal for Anderlecht winger Nilson Angulo after Simon Adingra agreed a €1m Monaco loan until the end of the season with a €17m option.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Sunderland have agreed a deal for Angulo and a medical is under way. Adingra has managed one goal in 15 outings since arriving from Brighton in the summer, though his exit would still leave a gap on the flanks.
Angulo joined Anderlecht from LDU Quito in summer 2022 after recording seven goals and five assists for the 13-time LigaPro champions.
Now 22, he has 10 goals and 11 assists in 94 senior games for Anderlecht, with this campaign bringing six goals and seven assists in 22 Belgian Pro League matches. He has added further contributions in the UEFA Conference League and Croky Cup.
His Pro League average rating stands at 7.61, the highest among Anderlecht players this season, 0.05 ahead of Thorgan Hazard. He shares the team lead for direct goal involvements on 11, completes 2.1 successful dribbles per 90, and is second for chances created on 46, behind Hazard on 56.
His form has lifted Anderlecht to second and a Belgian Cup semi-final with Antwerp. He has 12 Ecuador caps and scored in a 2-0 win over New Zealand in November. He cannot face Burnley on Monday, but if he signs today could travel to leaders Arsenal on Saturday.
