Why Arsenal international missed training on Tuesday | OneFootball

The Netherlands held Tuesday’s training session without Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber, with the Dutch media explaining why.

Arsenal right-back Jurrien Timber has been called up by the Netherlands for the September-October international break, but he wasn’t present in training with the national team on Tuesday.

Dutch outlet Voetbal International report that Timber is current following an individual programme, due to the after-effects of his recent injury.

In consultation with Arsenal, Timber will be following a modified schedule whilst on international duty. The same report adds that the Netherlands need to be cautious with the defender for the time being.

The good news is obviously that Timber hasn’t suffered another injury setback. Arsenal fans will be particularly concerned about that possibility, so soon after getting the 25-year-old back in action.

Timber has only played 45 minutes against Sunderland and 60 against Brighton & Hove Albion so far this season, with Arsenal clearly wary about asking him to do too much too soon.

Between those two Arsenal appearances, Timber was rested completely for the League Cup game against Ipswich Town, not even making the bench.

The Netherlands have four Nations League fixtures over the international break, starting with a home game against Germany. The match is arguably their biggest of the break, but it’s also probably advisable that Timber doesn’t play it.

The national team are clearly willing to follow Timber’s modified training schedule, but whether they use him as responsibly in matches remains to be seen.
