Nicolas Gonzalez enjoyed a successful loan spell at Atletico Madrid from Juventus last season, with the Spanish side having a pre-agreed option to sign him permanently at the end of the loan spell.
However, Atletico did not trigger the clause that would have forced them to sign the attacker, instead wanting to negotiate a new deal that would allow them to pay less than they had originally agreed. Juve refused to compromise, leaving Gonzalez hoping the move could still happen.
The attacker waited throughout the summer for the two clubs to reach an agreement, but the transfer window eventually closed without a deal being completed. There was interest from other clubs, but none of those options was good enough for Gonzalez, who wanted to remain at Atletico rather than move elsewhere.
Gonzalez is now looking to do well for Juve, at least during the first half of the season, but questions remain over why Atletico eventually pulled out of a move for his signature.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the transfer failed to materialise because Atletico believed Juventus were asking for too much money for the attacker. Despite knowing his quality, the Spanish side remained reluctant to spend heavily on Gonzalez.
Juve, meanwhile, were unwilling to compromise on his value simply to find an agreement. The Bianconeri had already seen the attacker perform well during his loan spell and did not want to accept an offer they considered insufficient.

The situation leaves Gonzalez back at Juventus after spending last season with Atletico. The attacker had hoped to make the move permanent, but the two clubs were unable to find common ground before the window closed.
There was interest from other clubs, but Gonzalez did not consider those options good enough. His preference was clear, as he wanted to continue his career with Atletico rather than join another team.
Now, the attacker must focus on Juventus and make the most of his return. His immediate objective will be to perform well for the Bianconeri and show that he can still have an important role in their team.
For Juve, keeping Gonzalez means retaining a player who has already demonstrated his quality at Atletico. While the failed transfer may have disappointed the attacker, he now has the opportunity to prove his value in Turin.
