Real Madrid have emerged as a surprise contender for the signature of Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva. The Portugal star is out of contract this summer, and appears to be keen on a move to La Liga, after years of being linked to Barcelona.
Silva has seemingly held a long-standing desire to join Barcelona, with family living in the area, and it looked as if it would finally on the verge of happening this summer. Yet Silva is now reportedly prioritising a move to Atletico Madrid as things stand, who are offering him a better salary and a more important role than at Barcelona. The Catalan side are not prioritising a move for Silva, who recently commented that he wants to sign for a club ‘where he is wanted’.

Silva is also wanted at the Santiago Bernabeu next season. Diario AS report that Jose Mourinho is pushing for Los Blancos to move for Silva, who possesses several traits that the new Real Madrid manager is keen on bringing in. Agent Jorge Mendes offered Silva to them several months ago, but with Mourinho now in charge, it could change their stance.
Mourinho wants to foment team spirit at the Bernabeu, and Silva has also stood out for his commitment and concern for the collective. The former believes that he could help him greatly in that regard and has already spoken with Silva about his desire to sign him. The 32-year-old midfielder has decided to postpone his decision until after the World Cup.

It is not clear what system Mourinho will employ at Real Madrid, but it seems likely that he will have to use a front two with Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe, or even a front three. Silva’s versatility makes him easy to fit into any side, capable of playing a deeper central role, wide on the right, or in a more advanced playmaking role.
