A left-back signing has been at the top of the agenda at Old Trafford.

Ideally, that transfer should have happened in the summer.

Despite Luke Shaw‘s ever-presence last season, it was clear he could not start every game, especially given how jam-packed the Red Devils’ fixtures were this season.

Getting another quality left-back to share the workload with Shaw made sense.

Unfortunately, however, a deal for such a player did not go through, after a move for top target Lewis Hall failed to materialise.

While that transfer was to be revisited next year, a move for Hall is no longer on the table. He has since committed his future to Newcastle, publicly highlighting his desire to stay there long term.

As a result, INEOS have had to turn to other targets, and one appealing option is Tyrick Mitchell.

Mitchell is in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, and given his quality and Premier League experience, he appeals to the 20-time English champions. They want him, and the player will reportedly find it hard to refuse.

Yet, as hope builds over this transfer, some less pleasing news is emerging from Italy.

Tutto Sport are reporting that, beyond David Raum, who has also been linked with a switch to M16, Juventus also want Mitchell.

They see him as the perfect option to bolster their left-back options. However, while they could also look to sign Mitchell when he becomes a free agent at the end of the season, they know it will be hard to compete with United, or any other top English side, in that race.

As a result, they are keen to move fast and convince Palace to let them sign Mitchell in January.

Whether the Red Devils will move to counter such a move remains to be seen, given the appeal of a free transfer. But if they do not, that could be another top left-back they miss out on.
