Why Juventus is not pushing to sign Gundogan | OneFootball

Galatasaray are looking for a new home for Ilkay Gundogan after he lost his place as a starter in their team, and that should have been good news for Juventus.

The Bianconeri were one of the clubs interested in signing him when he was leaving Manchester City, while Juve were also in the running when he departed Barcelona.

On both occasions, another club beat Juventus to his signature, meaning this could have been the perfect opportunity for the Old Lady to finally add the experienced midfielder to their squad. Gundogan would also likely be happy with a move to Turin.

However, despite learning that the player is available for sale, Juventus have not shown serious interest in signing him so far, and there is a clear reason behind their decision.

Juventus Consider Gundogan Too Old

Tuttojuve reports that Gundogan’s salary of 5m euros net per season would not be too much for Juventus to pay. However, the Bianconeri believe he is too old and have decided to focus on much younger players as they look towards the future.

The Old Lady appreciate what Gundogan could bring to the squad, particularly his experience and ability to help the team in important moments. His arrival could also provide valuable experience to a group looking to improve.

Despite that appreciation, Juventus do not appear convinced that signing the midfielder would make sense for their long-term plans. They are instead prioritising players who can remain important to the club for several years.

Juventus Focus On Youth

Gundogan could therefore be available at a price that Juventus can afford, with his wages also considered manageable. Nevertheless, the club’s current strategy means his age remains a major obstacle to any potential transfer.

The Bianconeri know the midfielder could add quality and experience if he joined them, but they do not believe that is enough to justify the move.

For now, Juventus appear determined to stick with their plan of building around younger players rather than making a short-term investment in Gundogan. That decision could leave the door open for another club to secure his signature.
