Lyon sit provisionally third in Ligue One ahead of Lille despite being level on points and goal difference, because head-to-head results take priority in France.
L'Équipe points out that in the Premier League goals scored come after goal difference, so Lille would be third there, having 49 goals to Lyon’s 45.
In Ligue One, when clubs are tied on points and goal difference, currently +15 for both, the next tiebreak is the record in their meetings.
Lyon beat Lille twice in the league this season, both 1-0, which puts them ahead in the standings.
After overcoming PSG on Sunday night, Lyon hold the advantage over their northern rivals for now.
