Manchester City will not be permitted to use their brand new EA Sports fourth kit in the Premier League this season, a new report has explained.

The recently unveiled design – part of a collaboration between the Premier League side and EA Sports – has generated a level of excitement among supporters of a certain age and demographic since its reveal.

Featuring a bold green aesthetic with digital-inspired detailing, the kit was created to celebrate Manchester City’s virtual football partnership and connection with the gaming world.

Despite popularity surrounding the design, some Manchester City fans may have been hoping to see the likes of Erling Haaland and Phil Foden don the vibrant shirt in domestic league action, but will be left disappointed.

As highlighted by a new BBC Sport report, Manchester City will not be able to wear their brand new green fourth kit – produced in partnership with EA Sports – in the Premier League this season.

The report explains that all top-flight clubs in England can only wear a maximum of three kits in a single league campaign, while there is no such limit in the UEFA Champions League, meaning City can sport their new strip for the rest of the European season.

It is also pointed out that Manchester City can wear the kit in the upcoming FA Cup tournament, providing the club submit an application to the Football Association, as well as a reason for its requested use.

The rule means fans will see the EA Sports design only in select competitions, rather than regular domestic fixtures, and additional opportunities to wear it beyond the victory away at Villarreal could come later in the league phase of the Champions League or in European knockout rounds.

Looking ahead, City’s partnership with EA Sports shows no sign of slowing down. The collaboration continues to blend football, fashion, and gaming culture, appealing to younger audiences and global supporters alike.

For fans, the green EA Sports kit will likely remain a collector’s favourite, and a symbol of Manchester City’s continued innovation both on and off the field, even if it is one they will only see in action outside the Premier League.
