With the U-20 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, South African national team head coach Raymond Mdaka named his final squad for the tournament.
However, the announcement was met with displeasure from a section of the South African football fraternity as Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Shandre Campbell were omitted from the squad.
The teenage stand-in Orlando Pirates captain was not selected due to an agreement between Mdaka and senior national team head coach Hugo Broos, per SAFA statement.
Mbokazi is expected to feature for Bafana Bafana in the final two crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda next month.
Meanwhile, Campbell was not given the greenlight by his team, Club Brugge, to join the Amajita camp for the global showpiece.
Broos tried to step in to convince the Belgian giants to permit the SuperSport United academy graduate to travel with the team, but Brugge declined the call-up letter.
Amajita will assemble for camp in Johannesburg on Friday, 19 September, before jetting off to the host nation, Chile on 24 September 2025.
Mdaka’s charges are in Group E alongside USA, France and New Caledonia, with the tournament set to run from 27 September to 19 October 2025.
