Sheffield Wednesday are rooted to the bottom of the Championship table, and they've been handed a further blow
Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a fresh six-point deduction penalty for breaching EFL rules and regulations.
The EFL have confirmed, via The Independent, that the Owls have been dropped to a total of minus 10 points in the table, after previously being docked 12 for going into administration in late October.
Breaches of the league’s rules came under previous owner Dejphon Chansiri, who has since lost control of the Championship side after handing over the responsibility to the administrators.
The Thai businessman oversaw the failure to pay players and staff on time on multiple occasions in 2025 prior to their October 24 move into administration.
Begbies Traynor have been appointed to oversee the sale of the South Yorkshire outfit, with a preferred bidder yet to be named amid intense speculation regarding prospective new owners.

The EFL have confirmed that Sheffield Wednesday have been penalised six points due to multiple breaches of their regulations following an agreement with the second tier side, with a failure to meet obligatory payments cited as the reason.
The Owls’ former owner has also been handed a three-year ban that prevents him from owning or becoming a director at any club in the EFL between now and 2028 as part of this ruling, although he's unlikely to ever past the Owners Test.
"Sheffield Wednesday FC are to be deducted six points with immediate effect for multiple breaches of EFL regulations relating to payment obligations, with the club's former owner, Mr Dejphon Chansiri, prohibited from being an owner or director of any EFL club for a period of three years,” the EFL have wrote via Sky Sports.
"The sanctions on both the club and Mr Chansiri can be confirmed after the parties reached an agreement on the appropriate sanction which was subsequently ratified by the chair of the appointed independent disciplinary commission."
Sheffield Wednesday were sitting bottom of the table prior to this latest development, with their position in the standings now further entrenched.
Henrik Pedersen’s side have won just one of their opening 18 fixtures, with the team now all but certain to be relegated from the Championship this season.
The gap to safety is now 27 points following this latest setback, as the Yorkshire outfit now have minus 10 points.
Next up for Sheffield Wednesday is a trip to face Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, with a preferred bidder to take over the club unlikely to be named by then after it was reported the soft deadline of December 5 for that annoucement is likely to be extended.

Survival against relegation was all but confirmed when Sheffield Wednesday were hit with their 12-point deduction given their results so far this season - this is now just adding further fuel to it.
An additional six being taken off them stings, but doesn’t have any actual impact on the side in real terms, given their results and how stretched the squad is, even with the additions of the experienced duo of Liam Cooper and Nathan Redmond.
The positive news is that these breaches have impacted this campaign instead of dragging on into the next season, so they should be able to start fresh in League One next year under a new owner - providing the amount of money paid for the takeover settles all creditors.
While Sheffield Wednesday’s decline has been painful for supporters, they should be able to take some solace from the fact that there is now light at the end of the tunnel.
