David Moller Wolfe’s cameo for Norway ended shortly after he came on, the Wolves full-back withdrawn following a facial blow that required stitches.

He had started in the 2-1 defeat to the Netherlands earlier in the week, then began on the bench against Switzerland on Tuesday.

Introduced on 63 minutes for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, Wolfe was soon in the thick of it.

He took an elbow under his eye, was left in visible pain and bleeding, and needed four stitches. Team-mates quickly gathered, with Benfica striker Andreas Schjelderup urgently signalling to the bench.

Wolfe was replaced 12 minutes later by former Albion defender Torbjorn Heggem.

“My teammates who came over reacted, and that’s when I panicked, I won’t lie about that. Schjelderup came over to me and shouted ‘Ola’, (the team doctor) and that’s when I panicked.” He said this to a Norwegian newspaper.
