Wigan seeing red in battle for League One survival

Wigan Athletic are in a fight for survival but their disciplinary record isn't helping with the team just one point above the drop zone.

The Latics drew 1-1 away to Barnsley on Tuesday evening but were leading 1-0 until deep into stoppage time. Gary Caldwell's team weren't helped by Callum Wright receiving his second yellow card two minutes before the end of regular time.

Instead, Charlie Lennon scored on his Tykes debut in a game which will very much feel like two points dropped for Wigan.

That red card was remarkably Latics' ninth of the season in the league which puts them top of an unwanted stat.

Famously, Premier League side Chelsea have had a torrid disciplinary record but they've only had seven sendings off.

Wright was the eight different Wigan players to be sent off in League One this year, with the Latics spreading red cards across the squad. Steven Sessegnon is the only Wigan player to be dismissed twice this season and is one of our players to receive two red cards in the third tier this season alongside Alfie May, James Husband, and Joe Lewis.
