Wilder confirms reason for Sheffield United absence against Cardiff and outlines transfer priorities | OneFootball

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has revealed Harrison Burrows missed the 2-2 draw with Cardiff through injury and not because of transfer speculation.

Burrows was absent from the Blades squad, but Wilder insisted there was nothing unusual behind the defender’s omission.

“No, it’s nothing untoward,” Wilder said.

“But I get the noise regarding that. H was out for a while with a tight quad, and he tweaked that last weekend at Swansea. So that’s the reason he wasn’t involved in the week, and why he wasn’t involved today.”

Wilder also reiterated the need for Sheffield United to strengthen before the transfer deadline, with a new right-back a priority following Femi Seriki’s injury.

“We need to add at right-back, because we don’t know where Femi is at the minute,” Wilder said.

“We’re going on worst-case scenario with Femi. Matt played a lot of minutes on Tuesday and Shacks is in a situation where he can’t start a game, so we had to make a decision.

“Maybe I got that wrong and should have put Doch in, but we felt that was a risk as well.”

Wilder revealed the club are progressing with a number of potential deals and believes additions are important ahead of their next fixture.

“But getting players in, of course, is really important,” he added.

“We feel we’re down the line with a couple, which we need to get in, in my opinion, before 12 o’clock, because it’s a really important game.

“We’ve lost a few players. We’ve not got players in that I would have liked to have got in on time.

“And we need to be our strongest, in my opinion, to deal with another promoted team on Tuesday night.”
