Wilfried Gnonto’s goalscoring full debut for Fiorentina has given Leeds United early encouragement that their summer loan strategy is on track.
According to Leedsunited.news, the 22-year-old left Elland Road on deadline day on a season-long loan, with an option that would take the total package to £18m, including the loan fee, if Fiorentina choose to buy.
Handed a first start by new head coach Paolo Vanoli on Tuesday in the Coppa Italia against Pisa, Gnonto played the full 90 minutes and struck in the 71st minute to make it 2-0 in an eventual 3-0 win.
Early upheaval in Florence, with Fabio Grosso departing less than a week after his arrival, might have derailed him. Instead, Vanoli’s immediate trust points to a set-up where he can thrive.
With Gnonto no longer a guaranteed starter under Daniel Farke, turning a peripheral role into a potential £18m outcome would be smart business for Leeds. If he maintains this trajectory, Fiorentina would have little choice but to trigger the option, delivering a sizeable windfall.
