Michael Olise had an outstanding season at FC Bayern. According to former international Bacary Sagna, the attacking star would even have been in with a chance of winning the Ballon d’Or had the record champions not been eliminated by PSG
Michael Olise is without doubt one of the biggest winners of the season at FC Bayern. The French attacking player impressed both in the Champions League and in the Bundesliga, where he was named player of the season
According to Bacary Sagna, Olise would even have had a realistic chance of winning the Ballon d’Or – if Bayern had beaten Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the Champions League
In an interview with the oddschecker portal, the former France international explained: „I think if he had won the Champions League this season, he would have won the Ballon d’Or.“
According to Sagna, the elimination against Paris Saint-Germain significantly worsened Olise’s chances. „Bayern’s elimination against Paris basically slowed him down, but he was phenomenal this season both in the league and in the Champions League,“ said the ex-professional
Sagna was particularly impressed by Olise’s style of play: „He’s an artist on the pitch and the performances he’s given the fans this season have been simply fantastic.“
At the same time, however, the former right-back believes that the weaker second leg against PSG had a negative impact on public perception
„Unfortunately, people have a short memory and will only remember that last game against Paris, where he wasn’t as good as in the other games,“ explained Sagna. „That’s why people started to criticize him and that will stand in his way in the race for the Ballon d’Or.“
Nevertheless, Sagna believes the Bayern star is capable of winning the big individual title in the long term
„I don’t think he’ll make it into the top three in the Ballon d’Or rankings, but can he win it in the next three or four years? Yes,“ said the Frenchman

Sagna was also positive about FC Bayern’s overall performance: „I think Bayern played a great Champions League season overall,“ said the former international
He sees the weak phase in the first leg against PSG as the decisive factor: „The difference was in the 20 minutes in which Paris simply overran them, and that cost them the semi-finals.“
Sagna also addressed the discussions surrounding the refereeing decisions: „They were also very unlucky with the refereeing decisions, but that’s soccer.“
