Willian Arão has reported back to Santos’ training centre but remains unavailable due to a problem in his right calf.
According to Diario Do Peixe, he captained the 0-0 draw with Red Bull Bragantino at Neo Química Arena on 25 January, the fifth round of the Paulistão. He was taken off at half-time with right calf discomfort, then suffered a kidney stone episode.
He was sent to Hospital São Luiz in São Paulo, where a large stone was identified. He underwent a procedure to remove it, carried an internal catheter for a few days and was kept from physical activity for at least 15 days.
After that period he returned to CT Rei Pelé this week and is working in the gym, with no timetable for a comeback because of the calf issue. He should complete physiotherapy work, then begin a transition phase before rejoining the squad.
Last year he missed almost three months, from late July to September, with oedema in the same right calf. He joined in July and debuted against Flamengo in the Brasileirão.
He returned in October, regained a starting place and earned the trust of head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda. This season he started all five opening Paulistão matches and has 18 appearances for Santos.
