Willian is managing muscular pain, leaving Grêmio with a fitness concern for next Sunday’s Gauchão semi-final second leg.

According to Globo.com, head coach Luís Castro said after the 1-1 draw with Juventude that the attacking midfielder has felt the problem since Wednesday’s game against São Paulo, and he will be re-evaluated over the week. He added they would try to have him fit for the next match, although recent days have not been comfortable for the player.

Willian was replaced at half-time by Jefinho after setting up Tetê’s goal in the first half. On returning to the bench at the start of the second half, he had difficulty walking and began icing his left thigh.

He has featured in all 11 of Grêmio’s matches this season, a run matched only by Carlos Vinicius.

Following Monsalve’s injury, Willian became the main option to link play in Castro’s side. Cristaldo, who began the season as a starter, has not taken his opportunities and is now lower in the pecking order.

Wagner Leonardo missed the last matchday squad with muscular discomfort. The expectation is that the centre-back will be available for the second leg.
