Williot Swedberg will step out at Mestalla again on Sunday, his fourth professional appearance there, shortly after qualifying for the World Cup with Sweden. It could be his last visit if a summer transfer happens, or perhaps the penultimate.
According to AS, his father, ex-professional Hans Eskilsson, says Swedberg understands Mestalla’s current situation and has long held a fondness for football grounds of all kinds.
Swedberg’s bond with Valencia runs deep. Between 2008 and 2014 his family traded Stockholm’s winters for the warmth of the city, living at one point in Massarrojos while he trained with the Godella CF academy.
Weekends meant football, and trips to Mestalla rarely went missing when Valencia played. The stadium became a formative place for him.
Eskilsson believes playing there stirs strong memories for his son. He attended Sweden’s meeting with Poland and plans to be at Mestalla on Sunday as well.
Even so, Swedberg is now a Celta player and his preferred home ground is Balaídos.
