Wilmar Roldán says the Pacaembu atmosphere the night Corinthians beat Boca Juniors to win the 2012 Copa Libertadores was the most hostile of his career. ESPN Colombia reports the Colombian made the remark during a recent quiz.
On 4 July it will be 14 years since Corinthians won 2-0 at Pacaembu, sealing an unbeaten continental crown. A crowd of 37,959 drove the hosts on with fireworks, loud chants and a mosaic reading 'Vai, Corinthians'.
Tite’s side needed a win after a 1-1 first-leg draw at La Bombonera, where Romarinho lifted the ball over Orión on 40 minutes. Back in São Paulo, Corinthians pressed early, Alex trying from range, then emerged after the break even bolder, leaning on set-pieces swung into the box.
Eight minutes after the restart, Alex delivered, Danilo cushioned a back-heel and Emerson Sheik finished to open the scoring. Soon after, Schiavi misplaced a pass, Sheik intercepted and burst from halfway, steering a right-footed shot to make it 2-0 and seal the title.
He has refereed Corinthians eight times, with four wins, two draws and two defeats, issuing 23 yellows and three reds. His latest was the 3-2 home win over Universidad Católica of Venezuela on 26 February 2025 at Neo Química Arena, when he pushed Rodrigo Garro at half-time as the Argentine tried to complain about fouls and time-wasting.
Left off the 2026 World Cup list, he remains active in this season’s Libertadores and could take charge of Corinthians again, including a possible last-16 tie with Rosario Central in August.
