Girona returns to score three goals in a good match at Montilivi. Míchel's team got an important victory to climb positions in the standings and face the Champions League match against PSV on Sunday with a good feeling. The white-and-greens have been dominating the game and have lived for many minutes in the opponent's field, but, nevertheless, they have found a very effective Leganés that has given war.
The team has already shown its intention to be protagonist from the beginning, generating a sense of danger with balls into the area that no one has been able to finish. The goal did not take long to arrive, and in a lateral cross after twenty minutes, Miguel took advantage of a rejection at the far post to cross the ball and open the scoreboard. Leganés equalized right after with a shot from outside the area by Tapia in their first dangerous arrival, but the team quickly recovered and Arnau, taking advantage of another Van de Beek's cross, headed the ball in. Dmitrovic saved Yangel Herrera's third, and the visitors showed their effectiveness again just before the break with a goal by Juan Cruz.
On the pitch, Girona continued to be the protagonist, having the ball and generating dangerous chances to score the third. The insistence has been rewarded with a penalty in the sixtieth minute that Stuani has entered to transform. The Uruguayan powerfully hit the ball to the right post and put the team back in front. Míchel's men extended the lead minutes later, taking advantage of a cross from the left side that Sergio González put into his own goal, but Munir El Haddadi once again pulled one back with a superb goal from outside the area. The team from Girona remained solid and knew how to suffer to close a very important victory.
“In the sporting aspect, I can't ask more from the team”, explained Míchel, even though, in relation to the tragedy in Valencia, he added that ‘I asked them not to celebrate too much because it's a match that shouldn't have been played’. The coach also praised the role of Miguel and Arnau, who scored the first two goals, because “they are two players who make the team what it is, and are key to the way we play”.
