Inter Miami qualified for another final in four years after beating Orlando City 3-1 on Wednesday night. Without Javier Mascherano on the sideline, Javier Morales took charge from the bench.
With both Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba from the start, the Herons came out with a good result. But, as happens in the world of football, not everyone played to the standards, and some of them underperformed against the Lions.
That’s why, from InterHeron, we provided you with the winners vs losers from the Leagues Cup semifinal.
This doesn’t mean one player played incredibly and another played horribly, but during the match, the performance of certain footballers is noteworthy.
Lionel Messi: The Herons' captain had a discreet first half. Trying to break the defensive lines of the Lions, but nothing seems to work. However, in the second half, Messi put the team on his shoulders and led Inter Miami to achieve victory.
With a penalty kick to tie the game, and a goal to take over the score, Lionel Messi became the captain the team needed.
Tadeo Allende: A player who silenced many doubters, including myself. Before the substitution, Inter Miami was missing the player who runs with determination into the box to score; that player who wants the ball to attack.
With 30 minutes remaining, Allende became instrumental in the team's push for victory. His aggressive diagonal run into the box drew the foul that led to the decisive penalty.
Yannick Bright: I can’t not mention Bright in this article. Though his performance was quiet, Yannick played a pivotal role in the match’s key moments. He was consistently alert defensively, quick to recover possession, and precise in delivering the ball to Messi, allowing him to orchestrate the attack.
Maximiliano Falcon: The center back had a bad game. Simple as that. He made wrong decisions with his passes and struggled to contain Orlando City’s forwards.
Pasalic’s goal arrived when Falcon hesitated to throw the ball outside of the field, leaving the Croatian with a good stand to score the first, and only, goal for the Lions.
Rodrigo De Paul: It could have happened any time. Rodrigo De Paul was missing during most parts of the encounter. When he appeared, Inter Miami excelled on offense and defense, but when he wasn’t around, the team struggled.
Knowing what De Paul brings to the table, the motorcito went unnoticed and could have been Morales' first sub.
