Wissam Ben Yedder has been acquitted on appeal of psychological violence against his wife. According to L'Équipe, the Aix-en-Provence prosecutor general's office confirmed Wednesday's decision. The former Monaco and France striker, now with Wydad Casablanca, is 35.
His referral for rape to the Alpes-Maritimes criminal court had already been annulled. On three September 2025, the Nice court fined him €90,000 after assessing phone recordings and testimony from the complainant’s circle.
Appeal judges on 29 April 2026 found a tense relationship, mutual incomprehension and coarse exchanges amid an imminent separation. They said threats involving his brother were not taken seriously by the complainant, and that you will pay remarks related to looming divorce finances. The court also flagged staged-sounding recordings aimed at eliciting admissions, ruled out financial distress given her refusal of a luxurious flat, and noted humiliation alone, including adultery, is not a criminal offence.
His lawyer, Sophie Kerbaa, said the ruling restores his presumption of innocence, that he is relieved, and he now wants to focus on his career, family and future.
Ben Yedder is due in court on ten June in an appeal over sexual assault, having received a two-year suspended sentence at first instance. The case concerns a six September 2024 incident in which he took a heavily intoxicated woman to his home car park, masturbated and touched her thigh before she fled, and he has also paid €1.6 million to avoid another rape complaint.
