The referral of former France striker Wissam Ben Yedder to the Alpes-Maritimes criminal court for rape and attempted rape has been annulled on appeal. The chamber of instruction in Aix-en-Provence ruled there were insufficient grounds to prosecute.

L'Équipe reported that the appeal court, in a decision on 26 February, set aside the 3 November 2025 indictment order, ruling against submissions from the prosecutor general.

His lawyer, Sophia Kerbaa, said they were very satisfied with the ruling and that her client has consistently maintained his innocence.

Ben Yedder, 35, and his brother Sabri were charged in 2023 after accusations from two young women they met at a party. In November, he had been sent for trial for rape, attempted rape and sexual assault. The former Monaco and Toulouse forward signed for Wydad Casablanca in early January.

He previously received a conviction in Spain for tax fraud from his time at Sevilla between 2016 and 2019. In autumn 2024 he was handed a two-year suspended sentence for sexual violence against a young woman after a night of heavy drinking, a verdict he has appealed. In early September 2025 he was fined €90,000 by the Nice criminal court for psychological violence against his wife, with divorce proceedings ongoing.
