Wissam Ben Yedder’s indictment has been overturned by the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal, according to L’Équipe. The decision was handed down on Thursday.

The former AS Monaco and Toulouse striker, 35, and his brother Sabri had been due to stand trial on charges of rape. The appeals court annulled a November ruling.

Lawyers for the Ben Yedder brothers welcomed the outcome, arguing the accusations stemmed from a flawed reading of the evidence.

The court agreed with the defence that there were no factual and legal grounds for some of the charges. Ben Yedder has consistently maintained his innocence and believes the court heard him on that front.

In January, he signed a six-month contract with Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca. He was part of the France squad that won the UEFA Nations League in 2021.
