VfL Wolfsburg

After opening the season with one win and two draws, VfL Wolfsburg suffered their first defeat last weekend, falling 1-0 away to Borussia Dortmund.

Currently sitting 11th in the Bundesliga, Die Wölfe will be looking to respond at home on Saturday and put an end to a four-game losing streak against RB Leipzig.

The visitors won the most recent meeting between the sides 3-2 at the Volkswagen Arena back in April.

Wolfsburg head coach Paul Simonis is fully aware of the quality of the opposition.

“RB Leipzig have a team with a strong attack. They have good players with a lot of physical strength and individual quality,” Simonis said at his pre-match press conference.

“I think it will be an open game. I hope we can show the best version of ourselves and then we’ll always have a chance to win.”

Team News

Full-back duo Kiliann Fischer and Joakim Mæhle have both been declared fit to play for Die Wölfe.

Meanwhile, Kevin Paredes, Rogério, Denis Vavro, Jesper Lindstrøm, and Andreas Skov Olsen remain sidelined.

Wolfsburg coach Paul Simonis also provided a fitness update on new signing Christian Eriksen during his pre-match press conference, stating that the Danish veteran is making progress, but is still not ready for a full 90 minutes.

Predicted lineup: Grabara - Fischer, Jenz, Koulierakis, Mæhle - Arnold, Vini Souza, Majer - Daghim, Amoura, Wimmer.

RB Leipzig

Ole Werner’s RB Leipzig side suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat in his first Bundesliga game in charge, raising plenty of questions at the start of the season.

However, the team has responded strongly, winning three consecutive matches and climbing to third in the Bundesliga ahead of Saturday’s game at the Volkswagen Arena.

Die Roten Bullen will now look to extend that winning streak against a team they have beaten four times in a row.

On their upcoming opponents, RB Leipzig coach Ole Werner said at his pre-match press conference:

“They are a side with an impressive mix of experience and talent in their ranks, and they have a very defined playing style – various patterns of play and a shape that resembles our own. It will be interesting to see who can implement this style of football more effectively on the day."

Werner also highlighted Wolfsburg’s tactical strengths, noting their disciplined defensive work and ability to hit teams on the counter.

"They are really well-drilled off the ball and strong when attacking on the counter, and they have interesting ideas when it comes to set-pieces. The team know what they want to do when in possession and have a good understanding of how to use the space on the pitch; as you’d expect from a side with a Dutch coach, they have a defined structure in every phase of the game.”

Team news

Amadou Haidara, Benjamin Henrichs, Xaver Schlager, Kosta Nedeljkovic and Max Finkgräfe are all set to miss the game with injuries.

On the bright side for Leipzig, Antonio Nusa and Lukas Klostermann are both available again.

Predicted lineup: Gulacsi - Baku, Orban, Lukeba, Raum - Seiwald, Ouedraogo, Baumgartner - Bakayoko, Romulo, Diomande.
