Wolves have named Russ Fraser to lead the women’s and girls’ football department after the club’s historic promotion to Women’s Super League 2, marking their step into the professional game.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, Fraser will run the operation across recruitment, academy development and long-term planning, bringing a decade of experience in the women’s game.
He joined Reading in 2016, helping the newly promoted Royals secure top-flight status in the Super League, then moved to West Ham two years later, where the Hammers reached the FA Cup final in their first professional season.
At Leicester City he won promotion in his first season while overseeing another move to full-time. He later served as Liverpool’s managing director and helped their return to the top tier in 2022. Most recently he was sporting director for the women’s side at Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia before returning to take up this post.
Wolves, who play home games in Telford, sealed elevation with victory over Plymouth Argyle in last month’s play-off final after near misses.
Technical director Matt Jackson praised Fraser’s record at this level and above, highlighting his understanding of the women’s game and strong recruitment contacts.
Fraser called it an exciting opportunity and said he believes the club can build a strong programme across the next three to five seasons. He feels aligned with head coach Dan McNamara, praised the interaction between the men’s and women’s groups at Compton Park, and views the first season as a chance to recruit the right people.
