Wolves have condemned racist abuse aimed at striker Tolu Arokodare after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace. The club described the messages as disgusting.
The abuse followed Arokodare’s first-half penalty miss in the Premier League match at Selhurst Park. The club said in a statement that it had shared several of the messages, offers Arokodare unwavering support and stands with him.
Wolves reported the posts to the relevant social media platforms, the authorities and the Premier League. It will work with the league and authorities to help identify those responsible, and continues to take a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination.
The messages on Instagram included racist slurs, monkey references with animal emojis, the N-word and profanities.
This is the third high-profile instance of online racism aimed at Premier League footballers in days. Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana and Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri were also abused on Instagram after the Blues’ 1-1 home draw with the Clarets on Saturday.
