Wolves are weighing a summer move for Rangers right-back James Tavernier after his decision to leave at season’s end, ExpressAndStar.com understands.

The 34-year-old is out of contract at the end of the campaign and has confirmed he will depart after 11 years. He joined Rangers in 2015, has captained them for eight years, won the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and League Cup, and led them to the 2022 Europa League final, which they lost on penalties to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The right-back has scored 144 goals in 563 appearances for the Glasgow club.

Rob Edwards has already committed to significant summer changes with relegation confirmed, and Tavernier is among options under consideration. Wolves view his experience and leadership as potentially valuable during a window expected to feature numerous incomings and outgoings.

Wolves are also keen on fellow free agent Dan Neil, who will leave Sunderland when his deal expires following a loan at Ipswich. The 24-year-old has captained Sunderland to Championship promotion and would bolster midfield options, with Andre and Joao Gomes likely to be sold.

The club are monitoring Torino winger Alieu Njie. The 20-year-old has one goal and one assist in 11 Serie A appearances this season, starting only once, and has 31 games in all competitions since his 2024 debut, with two goals and one assist.
