Wolves' Nasser Djiga has avoided injury after going off against Sheffield United, so he is expected to feature against West Brom on Sunday.

Nasser Djiga is expected to be fit for Wolves’ derby game against West Brom on Sunday after avoiding injury in the win over Sheffield United last time out.

The centre-back has forced his way into Cesar Peixoto’s XI this season after Yerson Mosquera suffered an ankle issue in Wolves' opening day draw with Blackburn, and he has performed well.

As well as impressing with his physical attributes, Djiga has been assured in possession, and he has brought composure to the backline.

So, it was a real concern when Djiga stayed down after a challenge against the Blades in the 70th minute, and he was quickly withdrawn, with Toti Gomes coming on to replace the Burkina Faso international.

However, in a positive development, Express & Star reporter Matt Maher has revealed that Djiga has avoided any serious issue.

He explains that the 23-year-old was only suffering from cramp, which would have been a relief to Peixoto, who wasn’t sure on the extent of the problem when addressing the issue after the game in Yorkshire.

Therefore, Djiga is expected to be involved against West Brom on Sunday, although it remains to be seen whether he features on Wednesday in the EFL Cup, but Peixoto may have rested the centre-back anyway.

Even though Wolves only kept their first clean sheet of the season at Bramall Lane, they do rank joint-top for xG against, which shows they have been doing a lot right.

And, Djiga has been a reason for that. In truth, very few Wolves fans expected him to play a part this season, as he has barely featured since his move from Red Star Belgrade in February 2025, and he had mixed reviews from his time at Rangers last season.

But, he took his chance following Mosquera’s injury, and with the duo the only right-footed centre-backs at the club, there has been a good balance to the team since he partnered Ladislav Krejčí.

So, it will be a relief for Peixoto that he can go into what is the biggest game of the season for supporters with his preferred centre-back duo right now.

Wolves will surely make changes for Everton clash

The West Brom game may be the big one for supporters, but Wolves face Everton first, in what will be a tough challenge at Hill Dickinson Stadium in the cup.

Given that it’s the middle fixture in a three-game week, you would expect Peixoto to ring the changes, and it’s highly unlikely that Djiga will be risked, so Toti Gomes is almost certain to start.

Elsewhere, the likes of Jordan James, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Sean Neave will be hoping for minutes, and they know a good performance could give Peixoto food for thought ahead of the Black Country derby.

The win at Sheffield United moved Wolves into the play-off places in the Championship at this early stage, and they are three points behind leaders West Ham, but they do have a game in hand on the Hammers.
