Borussia Dortmund have made an offer worth up to €17m for Alverca's Bastien Meupiyou, with Wolves entitled to 50% of any sale.
Wolves are expected to be very busy in the transfer market as they look to back Rob Edwards with a group that can win promotion.
The new squad cost ratio rules mean, along with West Ham and Burnley, Wanderers should be in a position to outspend many Championship rivals this summer if they want.
However, the club will have to adapt to their new financial reality, and the loss of revenue means player sales are crucial in determining exactly how much Edwards and the recruitment team will be able to spend.

The departures of Jorgen Strand Larsen, Jhon Arias and Emmanuel Agbadou were finalised in January to help strengthen the budget, but further exits are on the cards.
Yet, it appears Wolves could be in line for another windfall from a player who is no longer at Molineux, with Borussia Dortmund making a move to sign Bastien Meupiyou from Alverca.
The 20-year-old centre-back arrived at Wolves from Nantes in the summer of 2024 for around €5m, with Meupiyou seen as an exciting talent for the future.
But, Wolves sanctioned a move for Meupiyou just 12 months on, with the defender joining Portuguese side Alverca.
It was a successful year for him at the club, as they finished 11th in the top flight, with Meupiyou playing in 30 games.
Clearly, he impressed, as reporter Seb Sousa-Pinto has revealed that Borussia Dortmund are now looking to sign the French youngster, with the German giants making an offer of an initial €12m with €5m in add-ons for Meupiyou.
There had been some talk that Wolves had a relatively cheap buy-back clause for the player, but the update states that is not the case.
However, it is said that Wolves are entitled to 50% of a future sale, which, if this offer is accepted, would see the club pocket €6m initially, and up to €2.5m in add-ons.
Obviously, that would be a nice return for Wolves from a financial perspective, with those funds likely to help the club this summer as it could be put towards new signings.

So, that’s the positive to this deal, and they will even end up making a profit on Meupiyou in this instance, something which looked unlikely considering they let him go just a year after joining.
Meupiyou has benefited massively from playing regularly, and he deserves plenty of credit for putting himself in a position where he is on the radar of a club like Dortmund after his first full season as a professional.
From Wolves’ perspective, whilst the money would be welcome, questions will be asked about why they were happy to let Meupiyou leave so quickly into his career at the club, when he is seemingly very talented.
This isn’t the only youngster who has left the club and gone on to be successful, with Pedro Goncalves flourishing at Sporting CP, and, the most obvious example is Vitinha, who is arguably the best midfielder in the world after winning the Champions League back-to-back with PSG.
Of course, each individual has their own journey, and it can be difficult for youngsters to settle, especially when they are moving to a new country and league at that stage of their life.
But, Wolves didn’t really give any of those three a chance to show what they could do consistently in the first-team, and it’s proven to be a costly mistake.
It remains to be seen if Meupiyou does go on to have a great career, and Wolves fans will be looking on with interest if he does sign for Borussia Dortmund.
