Wolves are working on a deal to sign Welsh international Jordan James, with talks ongoing with Rennes and his representatives over personal terms. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the club hope to conclude an agreement.

If completed, the 22-year-old would add depth and a homegrown option as Wolves look to meet the Championship rules requiring eight homegrown players in a 25-man squad and seven in every 20-man matchday squad.

James came through at Birmingham before joining Rennes in 2024 in a move reportedly worth £four million, with Atalanta also credited with interest at the time.

He spent last season on loan at Leicester, scoring 11 goals in 34 Championship matches as the Foxes were relegated to League One.

Several Championship clubs have pursued him this summer, and it is understood West Ham, Southampton and Middlesbrough all showed interest. Wolves are aiming to steal a march on their tier two rivals.
