Cesar Peixoto's side got off to a less-than perfect start to the 2026-27 Championship season this past weekend, opening the campaign up with a 2-2 home draw against Blackburn Rovers.

That point was only salvaged in the dying moments of the match through a controversial Raul Jimenez penalty, with plenty of improvements needed going forward to prove that Wolves are promotion quality - and perhaps more signings are needed too.

Linked with a swoop for Brighton right-winger Amario Cozier-Duberry following his sensational season on loan at Bolton Wanderers in League One in 2025-26, it appears that the Molineux outfit may strengthen their attacking unit even further beyond that.

As per journalist Darren Witcoop via X, one player that is on Wolves' transfer radar in the final two weeks of the window is Coventry City centre-forward Ellis Simms.

Simms, who signed for the Sky Blues in 2023 from Everton for a total package of £8 million, inclusive of add-ons, and has scored 40 goals in 145 games across all competitions in those three years at the CBS Arena.

A scorer of 13 goals in Cov's Championship-winning campaign in 2025-26, Simms started just 15 times under Lampard last season, with USA international Haji Wright preferred as the lone striker more often than not.

And with Taiwo Awoniyi arriving from Nottingham Forest, as well as the expected signing of Fenerbahce youngster Sidiki Cherif in the near future, Simms is likely going to slip down the pecking order under Lampard.

Whether Lampard is willing to sanction an exit for Simms - who has just one year remaining on his City contract - remains to be seen, but Witcoop claims that Coventry are 'expecting' loan bids from a number of Championship clubs for his services before the end of the month.

Fans of both Wolves and Cov have been reacting to the news of Simms being of interest to the Molineux hierarchy, with one member of the Sky Blues faithful somewhat puzzled, given his strong pre-season performances.

Another Coventry supporter thinks that Simms is more than capable of performing at top flight level, rather than dropping down again.

This Cov fan however thinks that instead of loaning Simms out, they should just cash in on him permanently, especially given his contract situation.

On the Wolves end, this fan would be happy to bring Simms into the club, as it could free up Adam Armstrong to be utilised from wider on the pitch, leaving the Cov front-man to battle with Raul Jimenez.

Another fan has sent Wolves a simple transfer message regarding Simms - bring him to Molineux.

And this supporter thinks that if towering Austrian Sasa Kalajdzic is going to depart before the window shuts, then Simms could be a viable replacement.

Wolves already had a strong strike-force with both Jimenez and Armstrong as goalscorers, but adding Simms into the equation would give Peixoto an embarrassment of riches.

It looks as though the Portuguese coach will be utilising some form of 4-3-3 this season, so given the lone striker route, you'd be forgiven for thinking that he'd be oversubscribed with central striker options.

However, Armstrong scored a lot of goals for Southampton playing off the wing in the 2023-24 season, as well as notching a whole host of assists, and that could free up Simms to battle it out with veteran striker Jimenez for a starting spot.
