Wolves and Norwich City are poised to encounter the same transfer setback as Scottish giants Celtic in a fresh blow

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norwich City will both be hoping to establish themselves in promotion contention once the 2026/27 Championship campaign rolls around in August.

For Wolves, a return to English football's second-tier for the first time in eight years awaits following relegation from the Premier League, which had beckoned on the cards all season and was ultimately confirmed when West Ham United played out a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

It's set to be a summer of significant upheaval at Molineux, where numerous high-profile departures will be expected as ex-Luton Town and Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards looks to build a squad capable of gaining promotion back to the promised land at the very first time of asking.

Norwich, meanwhile, have showcased promotion-worthy form across the second-half of the season under Philippe Clement, whose appointment back in December has initiated a drastic upturn in fortunes while restoring feel-good factor around Carrow Road.

It's been too little too late this term, but next time around, Norwich will be anticipating a genuine push towards promotion in their efforts to end a four-year exile from the Premier League.

Wolves and Norwich may be in the promotion picture together next season, and they're also competing in the same market as they bid to sign a player who has been eyed by Celtic, too. However, a fresh transfer blow beckons for Edwards and Clement to now contend with.

Wolves and Norwich City set for same Fares Ghedjemis transfer setback as Celtic

The player in question is Frosinone forward Fares Ghedjemis, who has emerged as a target for a host of clubs throughout the United Kingdom in recent times.

As per a recent report from Italian outlet Gazetta Dello Sport - via SportWitness - both Wolves and Norwich have offered €9 million (£7.8 million) to the Serie B side as they look to add a marquee acquisition to their ranks ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Celtic, meanwhile, are said to have lodged a 'very serious' €6 million (£5.1 million) bid in January, although Ghedjemis reportedly convinced his club into rejecting the advance in an effort to seal a move away once the summer comes around instead.

Ghedjemis, who scored on his international debut for Algeria in a 7-0 friendly victory over Guatemala last month, has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign to propel Frosinone into third place at the time of writing, registering 14 strikes and three assists from 35 appearances.

Most at home on the right-hand side of a front three, the 23-year-old's performances in Serie B have caught the eye this season and no shortage of suitors are interested in landing his signature. Ghedjemis, however, is reportedly pursuing a move to the Premier League instead, which he believes represents the best course of action to further his development, and stands against the prospect of playing Championship football next term.

It appears as though he's not totally sold on potentially stepping up to Italy's top-flight with Frosinone either - should they achieve promotion, of course.

The report adds that unnamed German clubs are eager to acquire Ghedjemis, who is currently valued at €8 million (£6.9 million) and a positive showing at this summer's FIFA 2026 World Cup with Algeria in North America could further increase Frosinone's ever-upticking price tag.

Wolves and Norwich City will have to set their sights elsewhere amid Fares Ghedjemis transfer blow

Wolves and Norwich have been dealt the sort of transfer hurdle which neither side is going to prove capable of overcoming, with the Algerian international's intentions clear and a move to the Championship seemingly off the cards.

For supporters of the two 2026/27 promotion hopefuls, the revelation that their sides are already eyeing transfer targets and are clearly willing to splash the cash will provide streaks of sure-fire encouragement as decisive respective windows loom.

Ghedjemis, from the available evidence, would have represented an eye-catching capture capable of enjoying a leading influence at second-tier level, but his services appear out of grasp and Wolves and Norwich will now have to look elsewhere as they seek to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of the following campaign.
