The Premier League club are looking to strengthen their attack after the departure of Matheus Cunha earlier in the summer.
Manager Vitor Pereira has already welcomed Jhon Arias and Fer Lopez to Molineux but remains intent on adding further firepower before the window closes.
The situation has been complicated by uncertainty surrounding the future of Jorgen Strand Larsen.
The Norwegian forward has been the subject of two rejected bids from Newcastle United, who are preparing a third offer worth £60 million.
Wolves remain insistent that Larsen is not for sale, but he has informed the club that he wants to join Newcastle.
Chairman Jeff Shi has told Larsen that he will not be allowed to leave, with Wolves fearing they would need to recruit two replacements in the final days of the window.
The club are determined to bring in another striker regardless of whether Larsen stays.
Arokodare has already agreed personal terms with Wolves. Genk are expected to demand a significant fee for their top scorer, and talks remain at an early stage.
Wolves had also been exploring a move for Getafe forward Christantus Uche.
A fee was agreed with the Spanish club, but the transfer stalled due to difficulties in reaching an agreement with the player.
That impasse has pushed Arokodare to the top of Pereira’s list, with Wolves optimistic that progress can be made before deadline day.
The move comes at a crucial moment for Wolves, who have lost their opening two league matches under Pereira.
A 4-0 home defeat to Manchester City highlighted the lack of cutting edge in attack.
