Speaking to Football League World, FLW’s Wolves fan pundit Thomas Woodhall has warned Wolves need to be wary of West Brom’s Jimmy-Jay Morgan in the Black Country Derby this weekend, describing him as ‘class’ and Albion’s ‘best’ player following his electric start to the season.

When asked about a West Brom player he fears the most ahead of the derby, Thomas told FLW: “Well, I’m not going to admit to fearing any of them, but I will say that Jimmy-Jay Morgan looks class.

“Aune Heggebo looks good, Callum Styles and Isaac Price too, they’ve got a few decent players, but Jimmy-Jay Morgan takes the cake for me.

“He looks brilliant, and he’s like the BTEC version of Fer Lopez! But no, he’s good.

“I think we’ve got enough to be honest. Jimenez looks to be injured and that’s a bit of a setback, but it’s not like we haven’t got cover.

“But yeah, Morgan’s the best player at West Brom this year, and he’s the one I’d say.”

Wolves have looked less than convincing defensively after conceding 10 goals already so far this season, but a clean sheet away at Sheffield United last week could do wonders for the confidence levels in the backline.

And that could be so important when it comes to stopping West Brom’s attack this weekend, with the visitors sitting inside the top 10 teams in the division for the most goals scored.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan has certainly been at the heart of it, stepping up to the next challenge of his career with ease and notching eight goal involvements from his opening nine games in all competitions.

Winning the EFL Young Player of the Month award for August, Morgan’s ability to produce a cutting-edge pass to create a chance as well as being lethal when shooting in the box himself has made him one of the standout players in the division so far, and if Albion are to get a positive result from Molineux, then he is bound to have played an integral role.

Therefore, the Wolves defence must ensure they do everything in their power to keep him quiet.

While easier said than done, the likes of Charlton Athletic and Queens Park Rangers have successfully neutralised him in recent times, so it shows it can be done with the right rigid system.

A key part to this will also be making sure Aune Heggebo can’t use his best strengths. The Norwegian’s stretching of defences through his relentless running has ensured Morgan has had more space to operate in, which has allowed him to be so devastating in front of goal.

But if Wolves can do their defensive duties well enough and stop those two from getting on the ball much in the derby, then they have every chance of claiming three precious points and earning the bragging rights heading into the international break.
